This was actually the 4th time this year I went on the beach trip with random people. This time, I had the chance to experience Grande Island in Subic Bay, Zambales for our yearly company outing. I was a little bit excited because the trip was for FREE and it was my first time to be in a island trip with my officemates. I’ve searched on over the internet to feed myself some information about the place. I saw pictures from Google images but they were limited unlike if you type Boracay there are lots of images to be your reference. I think the place is not that popular and there are only few blogs that were written. So, I guess I need to start giving my review of the adventure I’ve experienced at the Grande Island.
Our call time was 4:00 am Monday morning at the office. We travelled by bus bound to Zambales and it took us only 3 hours to reach the port going to Grande Island. The ferry boat left at 9 in the morning so we were just on time. We reached Grande Island in just 20-30 minutes approximately..and the adventures begun!
The view of the island from afar was majestic. I couldn’t wait to set my foot on the beach. However, when we arrived at the place, I was kinda disappointed because I was expecting splendid amenities. Anyway, I didn’t want to ruin the entire vacation so I just enjoyed what the nature offered me. The place is like a abandoned town. There are part of the island that seems like scary because of the ruined-like aura of the place. I hate the big pool area. I think it’s like wakeboarding pool or I don’t know where it is for. Don’t expect for a fine white sand on the entire coastline. The beachfront has big stones and black sand while on the side part, there are shells and greyish sands surrounded.
However, there are still some sight-seeing area where you could unwind and relax. The cottages/ rooms are good for relaxing since it is fully air-conditioned. The tour guide from the island said that the place was a war base during American times. There are ruined canyons, walls, and abandoned camp which still stood up to now. Sadly, I didn’t able to see those ruins because of the hot irritating weather. The food, oh the food, they serves buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner which is very sumptuous. I couldn’t remember any food that didn’t taste so damn good. Yum!
When the sun sat down, I was able to see the beautiful sunset at Chiquita Island. It is an island nearby which I think could be travelled by an hour walk. But, due to high water level, we weren’t able to reach the small island. We just took pictures, pictures, and pictures!
Though I didn’t enjoy the whole place on the island, I still have good memories to be remembered. I loved the bonding time with my officemates since we rarely do this thing. I enjoyed the food, the sun set, the bike scene, little Sammy, the pool swimming, the drinking session with them, the videoke and the beach strolling. I’m still looking for next year to have another beach trip with my co-workers. Hooolah!
